On the upside, Fraileas are tiny plants with big yellow flowers, especially handy for those with limited space. Easily grown on a sunny window sill & kept happy with a rich, porous soil, good drainage and aeration, plus lots of water - letting them dry out between waterings. On the downside, they’re slow-growing, with a short-life -15 years max, it’s Cacti swings and succulent roundabouts… Frailea enjoy flowers that are larger than the plant itself, but like a drunken Uncle at Xmas, they often don’t turn up, failing to bloom. They will open only in great heat, in the hottest, brightest, afternoon sun, if at all. That’s quite the attitude problem. Flowers - if they be arsed - are a wonderful sulphur-yellow.
