Echinocereus triglochidiatus “inermis” a.k.a. Spineless Hedgehog/ Spineless Kings Crown Widespread through the USA southern states and Mexico, this hardy little (well, potentially 45cm’s actually…) cutie may be spineless but the heavy waxy flowers - in vivid red or orange - certainly get the armadillos talking and the blooms are hugely sought after. Requiring good drainage, good light and very little water, the Spineless Hedgehog stems are also used by Native Indians to make sweet cakes. So pop that in your recipe book Nigella.
